Abstract:

Algorithms are computational programs that output results through software, and can be used for a variety of prediction and decision-making activities in human life, as well as to help humans accomplish specific tasks. Many people prefer human predictions over algorithmic predictions (algorithm aversion), and the reasons for algorithm aversion are related to the speed and accuracy of the algorithm's response, the nature of the task the algorithm performs, the expectations of the algorithm, and individual factors. An online empirical study using resume screening as a recruitment scenario showed that algorithms produce lower justice perceptions than human strategies, and their differences in justice perceptions were stronger in the rejection outcome condition, validating algorithm aversion.
