Abstract:

Our study explored the application of mental health education in career development within the biotechnology industry. We employed a mixed methods approach, utilizing surveys, semi-structured interviews, and focus group discussions. Survey responses indicated positive perceptions regarding the link between mental health and career development. Participants agreed that mental health knowledge could be helpful in managing stress (average score: 4.2) and that both mental health education (4.5) and integrating it into career development programs (4.8) would be beneficial. Interview analysis revealed several key themes. Participants highlighted the value of mental health awareness as a career advantage, enabling them to manage stress and navigate challenging work environments. There was a strong desire for integrated mental health education within career development programs to equip individuals with necessary skills for career success. However, some participants expressed hesitation about openly discussing mental health due to a perceived stigma within the workplace culture. Focus group discussions identified challenges and opportunities for integrating mental health education into career development programs. Balancing new content with existing program workload was a concern. Tailoring programs to address the specific needs of different career stages was viewed as beneficial.
