Evaluation of China's Media Convergence Policy: A PMC-Index Model Approach

Abstract:
China's policies on media convergence are an overview of the country's media industry's experiences to date and serve as a roadmap for the sector's future development. In order to obtain a quantitative evaluation of China's media convergence policies, this study uses text mining, semantic network analysis, and the PMC-Index model on the 28 national media integration policies that have been released since 2013 as the research object. The study reveals that technology is a recurrent theme in media convergence, which has progressed from the level of infrastructure construction to that of innovative application; Overall, China's media convergence policies have performed well and have steadily improved in terms of their scientificity and comprehensiveness. The study concludes with suggestions for policy type, policy tools, and effectiveness level.
