Abstract:

From the era of electronic technology with radio and television as the main media, to the era of biotechnology with virtual reality, the Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence as the main media, the development of media technology has always accompanied and influenced every era. McLuhan proposed the Media Body Theory in Understanding Media: The Extension of Man, which has always had significant theoretical and practical significance as an important theory for understanding the relationship between media and human beings. This article reviews McLuhan's basic views on media body theory, and combines the influence of historical factors, ideological enlightenment, and technological development to sort out the background of his theory. This article further explores the core content of the media body theory, including the extension of media as human beings, the creation of new environments through extension, and the further extension of media. Finally, by analysing the extension of human cognition, human object relationships, and human intelligence in the era of biotechnology, the new development and application prospects of McLuhan's media body theory are revealed.
