Abstract

This study develops and evaluates a novel biosensing-based educational framework utilizing EEG technology to enhance English vocabulary instruction in university settings across Chinese and Western cultural contexts. The framework operates by measuring EEG signals to monitor and analyze students' cognitive states during lessons, thereby providing real-time feedback to educators. This paper details the technical aspects of EEG signal acquisition, feature extraction, and the advantages of employing EEG technology in educational settings. The impact of this biosensing approach on student outcomes is assessed through measures of phonological awareness, English vocabulary performance, and learning attitudes. Results indicate a statistically significant improvement in phonological awareness, with a p-value of 0.012 (< 0.05). These findings underscore the efficacy of integrating biosensing technologies into educational practices, particularly for facilitating cross-cultural vocabulary learning. This approach not only advances pedagogical strategies but also illustrates the potential for broader applications of biotechnological tools in enhancing learning experiences, suggesting a promising intersection of biotechnology, cognitive science, and educational methodology.
