Abstract

The longstanding tradition of tutoring has evolved significantly, with contemporary approaches exploring its potential impacts on mental and physical wellness. This study delved into the effectiveness of various recess tutoring techniques—such as deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, short meditation, and light stretching—within the context of college education, specifically focusing on self-reported stress levels and sleep quality among participants. Contrary to expectations, our analysis revealed no statistically significant correlations between the types of techniques used, participants' stress levels, or sleep quality. This indicates that neither the choice nor the frequency of technique usage was influenced significantly by participants’ stress or sleep conditions. Further exploration into how these techniques affected participants' perceptions of their energy levels, focus, and fatigue also showed no significant variations based on the type of technique applied or the individual characteristics of the participants. Challenges identified in the implementation of these tutoring methods included time constraints, a scarcity of resources, and the need for more personalized approaches to learning. The limited time allocated for the program was found to potentially hinder the incorporation of sufficient physical activities, which are beneficial for enhancing cognitive functions. Additionally, a restricted variety of resources was seen as a barrier to accommodating diverse learning preferences, which could impact the overall efficacy of the program. Lastly, the generic nature of the activities, which did not account for individual student needs and preferences, may lead to reduced engagement and suboptimal outcomes in student well-being. These findings suggest that while the integration of biotechnological tools and methodologies could potentially enhance the effectiveness of recess tutoring programs by providing tailored learning experiences and broadening the resource base, significant improvements in program structure and resource allocation are necessary. This study highlights the need for a more targeted approach in the application of recess tutoring techniques, where biotechnological insights could play a crucial role in optimizing educational outcomes and improving student health and engagement within the college setting.
